SAP System Copy

In order to make a copy of an SAP system you first need to determine which type of copy you need to make, homogeneous or heterogeneous. These two options are discussed further below;
SAP Homogeneous System Copy

If you are not changing the operating system or database platform, then the copy is considered "Homogeneous". Even if you are making a small change to the operating system, this can sometime still be considered homogeneous, i.e. 32 bit to 64 bit migration or HP PA-Risc to HP Itanium. SAP Heterogeneous System Copy If the source and target operating system and/or database versions are different then the system copy is called heterogeneous, also known as a migration. This is the more complicated of the two and must be performed by a certified migration consultant. SAP enforce this by only providing migration kits to certified migration consultants.
